Chai Spiced Poached Pears with Honey Yogurt Sauce

Ingredients

  • 4 firm but ripe pears, peeled and halved
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise
  • 4 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon black peppercorns
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chopped pistachios, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine water, sugar, cinnamon sticks, star anise, cardamom pods, cloves, and peppercorns. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
  2. Add the halved pears to the simmering liquid, cover, and let them poach for about 20-25 minutes or until they are tender but not falling apart.
  3. Once the pears are poached, remove them from the liquid and set aside to cool.
  4. In a bowl, mix Greek yogurt, honey, and vanilla extract until well combined to make the sauce.
  5. To serve, place a pear half on a plate, drizzle with a spoonful of the honey yogurt sauce, and sprinkle with chopped pistachios.
  6. Repeat with the remaining pear halves and serve the Chai Spiced Poached Pears with Honey Yogurt Sauce warm or chilled.
